SPECIAL RECOGNITION

Each year SDSCA holds an awards banquet during the SDCA conference. Several individuals are recognized for accomplishments in the field of school counseling and for contributions to the profession. Each award recipient is presented with a plaque by the association.

Congratulations to last year's awards recipients. What an honor it is to be recognized for the outstanding work you do. Awards presented last year included:

Dr. Kelly Duncan, Northern State University – Orv Schmeiding Award
Cheryl Knudson, Irene/Wakonda Schools – K-12 School Counselor of the Year
Beth Schroeder, Garretson Elementary – Elementary School Counselor of the Year
Andree Johnson, Axtell Park MS, Sioux Falls – Middle School Counselor of the Year
Karen Amundson, Watertown High School – Secondary School Counselor of the Year
Wade Pogany, SD Department of Education – Special Contribution Award
Cathy Kazmerzak-Nelson, Lake Preston Schools – Walt Flannery Award
Char Nicholas, Washington Elementary, Pierre – Walt Flannery Award
Eileen Peacock, Cheyenne Eagle Butte School – Human Rights Award

Many of you know of outstanding counselors out there and I would like to encourage you to nominate them for recognition at this year's SDSCA Awards Ceremony during the 2006 SDCA conference. If you know of someone who isn't necessarily a school counselor but contributes to the counseling profession there are awards to nominate them for as well. Please look over the criteria for the awards and fill out a nomination form to recognize a deserving individual.
