MENTORING CHAIR:

DAVE KRULL

Take a deep breath, get ready, begin. Where do I begin? Your best bet if you are a new counselor is to contact another counselor. The Mentoring Program is an effort designed for experienced counselors to share their expertise and knowledge with members who would like to have a mentor. I remember my first year of trying to get organized and getting a call from Don Van Cleave. How do you spell relief? My savior that first year was Don Van Cleave, and I will always be thankful for his knowledge and expertise, because he had the answers to my questions and was my relief.

Some of the items that we can help new counselors with are:

ACT National Test Dates
Stanford Writing Test
Career Fall Planning Days
PSAT/NMST Planning and Administration
Career Interest and Aptitude Survey
ASVAB Testing
Financial Aid Day Planning For Parents
Career Trips
Dakota Step
Career Information
Dual Credit Courses
College Courses

This list is just the tip of the iceberg. As the year progresses you will find out how broad the role of the counselor really is. The mentoring program is designed to provide information, encouragement and support in the development of a new counselor who is seeking assistance. If you would like to be involved in this program and need assistance please contact Dave Krull or Vickie Donohoe.
